Quick ? regarding those who are or will be using the neck joint from John's new DVD... is the "paddle" at a 90 degree angle to the neck block? ie, flat across the top of the guitar at the upper bout above the soundhole? Or at an angle (1 or 2 degrees??) and then the top surface of the "paddle" is sanded with the radius dish? Thanks! |

John's the only one who can answer this question, really. Why not ask him? |

Too true Mario, but I figure alot of folks here use a similar arrangement and the question is kind of generic, ie, angle or no angle...but I suppose the shortest distance between 2 points (or in this case a question and an answer) is a straight line! ![]() |

Has anyone who pre-ordered received their copy yet? I read something here that they went out last week. |

Wayne, I've had mine for a while...about a week I'd say...maybe email John if you haven't received it by now...he's pretty good about getting stuff out right away. ![]() |

Larry, Did you get an answer to this question? I was surprised to not see any discussion of the neck block/extension construction in the DVD. |

Scott, I did...I emailed John and he said and I quote, "Yeah, put a slight angle on it!"...John's a very laid back guy as you see...I mean, I'm trying to fly this neck block to the moon and he's all for tossing it up in the air and letting the impact put the angle on it! ![]() |

I think I covered the making of the neck block in the rims video...course I may be wrong. I did mention, in the video, that the paddle part of the neck block (that is the only thing "special" to this neck joint in the neck block) is a half inch thick and that it extends to the transverse brace and to make sure the neck block paddle and the transverse brace are connected as "one" so to speak. so that in itself covers the neck block (with the exception of the angle of course) as the bottom half of the neck block is covered in previous videos. But yes put a angle on the neck block. The angle will depend on your design so I can't tell you what it will be, but ballpark it will be .5-2 degrees. Other than that I do need to measure the cavity for the fretboard tenon, but once again it will depend on your design and your scale length, fretboard taper and such. As always Scott if your unhappy with the video send it back to me and I'll refund your money. Oh and tracy and Wayne I sent your videos out some time ago. If you don't get em let me know and I'll send you another. |

Just an update on the neck block thingie...I eyeballed the angle on the block, sanded it in on my little disc sander and once the rim was bowl sanded everything came out dead on...I tend to overthink things sometimes...(airline pilot occupational character flaw ![]() ![]() |

John, I got mine last week and had some time to watch it a couple of times over the long weekend. The neck joint is pretty straight-forward, and you explain it pretty well. I'll be trying it out on my next guitar. Thanks, Wayne |

Thanks for the update. John,No worries. I was just trying to get an answer to a question I had. You’re giving my quickly deteriorating brain to much credit if you expect me to remember every detail of all 13 hours of previous videos. |

Got mine too John, and watched it already. It looks great and can't wait to try it out on my next guitar! Thanks! Tracy |
